John Colet School Open Day 2015

The  John Colet School Open Day will be held this year Sunday 24th May

Our Open Day this year will focus on the special enriched education that children receive at JCS, and of course, it is an extra special occasion being part of our 30th anniversary celebrations.

We have made some changes this year taking into account P&F feedback, and we believe it will be a welcoming, warm environment for current and prospective parents alike.

Parents, please have your children at School by 9am on the morning of Open Day.  They should be wearing full winter uniform, and bring their sports uniform along in their sports bag to change into at mid-day.  Children should be taken directly to their classroom on arrival.

Format for Open Day
Between 9am -10am, some children, perhaps because they are in the string ensemble, will be involved in performances around the school and parents of those children will be advised separately.

Between 10am-11am, all JCS students will take part in our stage performances.  The program for that is currently being finalised.

After 11am and until 12 noon, our Senior Students from 5th and 6th classes will be involved in showing parents and visitors around the school. Our classrooms will be open for parents and visitors to view children’s work.  Class teachers will be in the classrooms.  Our Clubs information kiosks will also be operating at this time, with fencing demonstrations and chess demonstrations as part of the mix.

Also from 11am, stalls displaying businesses owned by some of our parents will be operating.  Please be sure to visit them.  Thank you to these parents who are supporting our Open Day by taking a paid stall to display their business.  Any school parents who would like to take part in this, please contact Alex Coubrough in the office.

We will of course have our Cake Baking and Decorating Competition on, as well as 6th Class Games operating from 12 noon until 2pm. Lunch, prepared by Donna Moor and her kitchen team, will also be served at this time.

Children’s entertainment
Between 11am - 2pm, there will be children’s entertainment for our younger students and visitors:  petting zoo, crocodile encounter, jumping castle.  The smaller jumping castle will be by gold coin donation, and all proceeds from that will go to Hearts in a Row, a worthy arm of the Bell Shakespeare Company that provides the opportunity for a disadvantaged school to experience Shakespeare.

As it is our 30th Anniversary year, we will not be charging children this year to take part in entertainment such as crocodile encounter or petting zoo.    6th Class Games will be, as usual, by gold coin donation to take part in each game.  The proceeds of their stall will go towards the 6th class gift fundraising.

The day will conclude at 2pm with the Cake Baking and Decorating Competition winners announced.

Please note that Monday 25th May is a school day, and is not a pupil free day as it has been in past years.
