Fabulous BUNdraiser gets great result

Hot cross bun FUNdraiser

We did it! A fantastic result in raising enough funds (just) for a new industrial rice cooker for the kitchen. Thank you to everyone who placed an order. Over 1000 hot cross buns are being baked exclusively for us next week by the lovely Kim and her team at Forestville Bakery. We are thrilled with the result and hope to have this BUNdraiser added to the calendar as an annual event.

Congratulations and thanks to the T-H family for selling the most buns. They will be receiving a $20 voucher kindly donated by the Forestville Bakery. Enjoy your baked goodies, those donuts looked great and I have heard wonderful things about the sourdough loaves!

John Colet School MUFTI DAY Wednesday 13TH NOVEMBER

We are never more proud of John Colet School students than when they demonstrate empathy for others, show care and concern for their wider community and, very importantly,  have the initiative and courage to feel that they can do something of service to improve the lives of others.

Off to see the orchestra, and John Bell to visit

Our Infants students went to an ABC concert in Sydney this week, which was a great success. One of our 2nd class students got the chance to go on stage and conduct the orchestra, and a group of Lower First children enthusiastically responded to a call to dance on stage! Meanwhile next week John Bell, the founder of the Bell Shakespeare Company, will come to John Colet School to see snippets of the plays that each class is putting on in our upcoming Shakespeare Festival.  He is very generous with his time, and visits each year as Patron of our Shakespeare Festival.  The primary students have a question and answer session with him after their performances for him.

School orientation day for next year’s intake at John Colet School

Our Introductory Day for next year’s Lower 1st intake was a lovely morning for teachers and children alike.  The children had a settled and productive morning, and many of the parents came to the morning tea in the Staff Common Room, where Mrs Moor had laid on her usual feast.  Sixteen of the children were siblings of children already in the school, and this of course helps the event to be more relaxed.  Thank you to all involved.

Come and see our Primary Shakespeare Festival – John Bell does

Term Four is always a very busy one at John Colet School.  One of the advantages of being a Northern Beaches school is that we can take advantage of the superb theatre at Glen Street Theatre - something we have done for many years - to stage our Shakespeare Festival for Primary Students.

Getting to know families

During the year at John Colet School, the Headmaster tries to meet as many parents as possible informally, and one way to do this is through his morning teas for each year group.

Parents and Friends

The John Colet Parents and Friends group is busy organising two social events for school parents in term 4. On the Saturday of the first week back we will hold our fun family film night, which was rain delayed from last term. The film is “Ponyo” and families to bring a hamper and blankets for watching under the stars.

$2 Charity Day Market

Each term, every child at John Colet School brings in a $2 coin which they then use to purchase a little tasty treat at our regular Market Days.  We have four school houses: Macquarie, Flinders, Phillip and Cook, and each term it is the turn of students from a particular House to provide the tasty treats for sale.

Grandparents Day, on Wednesday 4th September

The next event on the John Colet School horizon is Grandparents Day, on Wednesday 4th September.

Those children lucky enough to have Grandparents living in Sydney have made cards and written to them asking them to attend.  Those without Grandparents are welcome to ask an ‘honorary’ Grandparent along.
